DRUMS & DECKS is one of Timmy Boom Bap’s projects that combines the world of Electronic DJ production with live instrumentalists.
Initially created for a Saturday night residency at the Belmont in Vancouver, his short search for a DJ to collaborate with led him to connect with long time friend DJ ABEL, and the rest is history. During the solid 4 year run the duo quickly built an incredible chemistry, incorporating samplers with Abels history as a drummer, and bringing in a horn section as a feature.
“I’ve rarely seen good Drum & DJ collabs, and I believe it’s due to the stigma many musicians have towards DJing” – Tim says referring to the genre
“As a drummer you have to really understand the art of DJing culture as a whole. From knowing how to improvise when the DJ is mixing between tracks, such as dropping out the bottom end or filtering your layers down to just claps etc, to being able to really sit in the pocket and accompany a produced track instead of just doubling the patterns and making things messy. It truly is it’s own art form that isn’t recognized yet in the industry”
Both Abel and Boom Bap are excited to re-ignite the flame and bring something totally unique and new to Osita and the drive in general. You can expect everything from your classic HipHop bangers, reggae and dancehall favourites, old school and modern soul gems, scratch features and chopped remix’s of your girlfriends favourite jams!
